Employment and Human Rights Law

I advise and represent individuals in employment and human rights matters, including where work ends unexpectedly, workplace conditions become unworkable, or discrimination and accommodation issues arise.

My work in this area may include:

  • Advice on employment rights, workplace problems, and options for resolution.
  • Review and negotiation of employment-related agreements, including severance offers and settlement terms.
  • Advice and representation in relation to discrimination and the duty to accommodate, including disability-related accommodation issues.
  • Human rights complaints in British Columbia, including complaints within the jurisdiction of the BC Human Rights Tribunal, and strategic advice about what must be shown to establish discrimination under the Human Rights Code.
  • Representation before the BC Human Rights Tribunal where appropriate, including mediation and hearing preparation.
  • Judicial review support, as applicable.

I have also written on the subject of accommodations the Canadian Bar Association-BC’s BarTalk magazine, in a co-authored article, “Supporting Neurodivergent Lawyers for a Better Legal Profession,” which addresses how accommodating neurodivergent lawyers can improve legal workplaces for neurodivergent employees, for their organizations, and for the communities they serve. Readers can access the article via my Writing page.
