Employment relationships are one of the most important forms of relationship for which organizations carry responsibility. I advise organizations on statutory and common law obligations and the practical realities of workplaces, including drafting and reviewing agreements, building workable policies and processes, and supporting organizations in addressing workplace challenges effectively, in compliance with law, and in a way that best minimizes conflict and difficulty.
My work in this area includes assistance with employment and contractor agreements, workplace policies, and advice on performance evaluation, disciplinary processes, and termination. I also advise on human rights obligations, including the duty to accommodate personnel with disabilities and other protected grounds, in ways that support inclusive workplaces and better outcomes for personnel, organizations, and our communities.
I have also written on this subject for the Canadian Bar Association-BC’s BarTalk magazine, in a co-authored article, “Supporting Neurodivergent Lawyers for a Better Legal Profession,” which addresses how accommodating neurodivergent lawyers can improve legal workplaces for neurodivergent employees, for their organizations, and for the communities they serve. Readers can access the article via my Writing page.
